Image of Ellen Richmond Ramseur, wife of Brigadier General Stephen Dodson Ramseur. This ambrotype in the North Carolina Museum of History depicts a young Ellen Richmond, likely before her fateful marriage to Ramseur in October 1863. The couple was married only for a brief time before he was fatally wounded in October 1864. Ellen had just given birth to their only child days before his death and was unable to travel to his funeral services with her three week old daughter.
