This is Matt Tidwell’s birth day, twenty today, so she says. I finished my cap today. It looks & fits very nicely. Aunt Patsey here today mightly distressed about our forces being taken prisoners. She heard that the Confederates had given up all Western NC. She is greatly distressed about it. Old Presly made George a pair of shoes today. He will be back on Monday to make Fannie’s & Atheline’s. He cut out Aunt Patsey & Betsey some today. No further news of the prisoners. I have a right bad headache tonight but ‘tis better since supper. I hope it may be well by morning.
