Thursday 3rd [March 1864]
Tax collecting day. A good many people here. Dinner late after one. I finished mine & Mr. Henry’s gloves today & put on some cotton knitting. Footing some cotton stockings for myself. Cool mornings & evenings but pleasant when the sun gets up. Cousin William H. still here. Gen. Martin’s cavalry passed through Asheville yesterday. I wished I had been there to see them. Two soldiers stay here tonight.
