Some rogue went into our smoke house last Tuesday night & took two sides of bacon. They drawed the staple. There is a great deal of stealing going on through the country by deserters. I think some one goes in the mill occasionally & takes what they want. We don’t let any grain stay there. I made myself a linsey saque today, trimmed it (facing) with dark coloured flannel. It fits neatly. Gus still very cross. He cries every time I dress his hand. ‘Tis getting well fast. I got all the missing No. of the Field &c. today. I will subscribe again soon. I wrote to the editor some two weeks ago telling him his paper was not coming regular so he sent be back No.
