Monday May 2nd 1864
Very windy today. Zona went with Matt & Ruth this morning to hunt her keys. Mrs. Dr. Hilliard sent some cotton here today to exchange for chickens. I sent her ten chickens for ten pounds of cotton. I have done nothing of note today. I will do some mending this evening I think & perhaps spin a little. The hands planted the sugar cane last week & the forward corn Mr. Henry sent home. Matt & Zona got back just after dinner. She did not find her keys. She had my big scissors Saturday evening & we can’t find them anywhere. I think they must be in her trunk. I spun a little today & mended some. No news of importance tonight by the mail.

I cut some quilt pieces today of old dress skirts. Atheline will piece it if she gets able. She mends very slow. I fear she will never be well again. She has a dreadful cough. Her baby grows some, it does not such her at all now.
