No mail. A note only from Mr McMahon telling us that “all the trains are pressed for military necessities by Gen Beauregard. Butler has moved to the North side; only negro troops remain on this side. Rumours of great success & much favour to our side; rumours, however, not as reliable as might be. Rumour says fighting yesterday the 31st.” It is hard to wait, but military necessity makes all bend to it. Pattie very unhappy about her brother. Suspense is agony.
