Saturday 13th [August 1864]
I finished my under body today. Billie Neilson was here today and got some apples. Sister Jane’s family are all well. I have done some mending this evening. Tom made the children a check board & a puzzle on the other side of the board. They are delighted with the puzzle. Three soldiers staid here last night. Mr. Henry killed a beef this morning. ‘Tis very nice. Tom & Charlie took the fore quarters to Asheville this evening. He gets one dollar a pound for net beef.
